Inspired by the BMW M4 GTS track car’s flat under floor section that was designed to improve aerodynamics and stability on track, we designed our own version to fit all F82/F83 M4, F80 M3 and F87 M2 Competition models. Like the M4 GTS, our aero under tray fits over the existing reinforcement panel and covers the car’s front section to offer a solid and level floor section that spans to create a low pressure area and reduce drag. Made from 2mm aluminium for strength and finished in black powder coat, it also offers improved protection to the car’s underside. Airtec AIRTEC Motorsport Aluminium Inspection Panel for Honda Civic FK2 Type R
As part of our expanding Honda product range, AIRTEC Motorsport is proud to launch our aluminium inspection panel/under tray for the Civic FK2 Type R. When modifying these cars to increase power and torque, an unavoidable by-product is the additional heat level that’s transferred to the car’s cooling system. During sustained hard use, this can become a substantial issue, as coolant temperatures can increase enough to trigger the ECU’s safety features, reducing torque or even putting the car into a limp mode. As a result, we wanted to address the car’s entire cooling system, which included introducing extra venting to improve air flow within the engine bay. Our solution to creating a direct replacement inspection panel/under tray in 2mm aluminium began with a full 3D scan of the vehicle’s underside to ensure a perfect fitment. As a result, it reuses all original mounting points with new stronger fixings supplied, offering improved strength and protection for the underside of the car. More importantly, the large functional vents actively help to pull warm air from the back of the radiator, down under the engine and into the low-pressure area of the car below the inspection panel/under tray. This effectively creates an increased flow path within the engine bay to transfer heat out, helping to reduce engine running temperatures. Finished in a high-quality black powder coat finish, the inspection panel/under tray offers improved cooling effectiveness as well as strength and durability. What does an under tray do?The under tray has three main purposes: to protect the underside of the vehicle from foreign objects flicking up and causing damage or accelerated wear. Secondly, to improve aerodynamics by creating a low pressure area as air accelerates past its smooth surface. This reduces drag, which works towards improving grip, handling as well as fuel efficiency. Lastly, on performance models, the under tray often provides increased cooling by either venting cold air to, or extracting warm air from the engine bay. Therefore improving the strength, design, size and cooling effect can offer fantastic benefits. Following an extensive development process, AIRTEC Motorsport are proud to launch our oil cooler kit aimed at FK2 Civic Type R owners who require the ultimate cooling package to maintain steady running temperatures on track or fast road use. The SolutionDeveloped in-house at AIRTEC HQ in the UK we designed an oil cooler to help address the cooling issues when pushed hard. This cooler fits neatly behind the fog light (requires removal) and utilises our bespoke CAD-modelled air duct to force cold air through the core. To create a flow path and further improve cooling, air then exits via the inner arch liner (requires cutting). A pre-cut mesh shield is supplied for both the front and rear to protect the radiator from road debris damage. This can fit with our intercooler and auxiliary radiator/turbo cooler to create the ultimate cooling package. The comprehensive kit also features laser-cut and powder-coated brackets, high-quality braided lines with AN fittings as well as all fixtures and fittings, and detailed fitting instructions. Before the auxiliary radiator and oil cooler were installed I would normally get approximately 5 to 6 laps, which is about 8 to 10 minutes of hard use before the oil temperature rose to around the 126 to 128°C. With the coolers installed, I can run at least 10 to 14 laps, which is over 20 minutes of hard use, and oil temperatures don’t normally go above 115°C. As part of our expanding BMW product range, AIRTEC Motorsport is proud to launch our replacement oil cooler kit for the E90, E92 and E93 M3 models, suitable for track or fast road use. With huge experience in developing external oil cooler packages for a variety of modified track and road cars, we chose to create a direct replacement oil cooler with a larger core to make the most of the space available in the original location. As a result, our kit offers a huge capacity increase as well as improved cooling, thanks to a core that measures 79% bigger than the standard BMW oil cooler together with an increased frontal area of 17% over standard, which means there is more air flow passing through the core to help cool it. With huge experience in developing external oil cooler packages for a variety of modified track and road cars, and aware of the FL5 Type R’s oil cooling issues during track use, the challenge with this kit was to neatly integrate a large capacity, external oil cooler where it could still benefit from direct air flow, whilst integrating seamlessly with the car’s existing fixtures and fittings with no drilling or cutting required. Unlike previous Type R models, mounting the oil cooler in the lower bumper wasn’t possible, so we chose to utilise the upper grille area and opted to design a unique oil cooler in order to make the very most of the limited space available, rather than use a generic off-the-shelf item. As a result, in comparison to a universal 13-row oil cooler, our bespoke oil cooler has 45% more capacity and is 100%/twice as much frontal area, which means there is more air flow passing through the core to help cool it. Your DSG gearbox is very susceptible to overheating, leading to protection mode that reduces engine power and eventually prevents gear selection. Why fit theDSG oil cooler kit? Our unique DSG Oil Cooler Kit is an essential fit for any hard-driven MQB 2.0 TSI car running high power levels or in hot climates. It's a complete ready to install package, using a clever sandwich plate design for straightforward and completely reliable installation. Transferring more power and torque through the DSG gearbox generates ever more heat to dissipate. Significantly increased oil temperatures means only one thing: a decrease in the ability for your DSG box to stay properly cooled, eventually causing power drop and gear selection issues. Under hard driving, the factory DSG oil/water cooler is easily overwhelmed. Problems start to occur when oil cannot dissipate its collected heat fast enough and the oil begins to thin and degrade - losing its lubrication properties. When this happens, the DSG will protect itself and begin to lower the engine torque, increase shift times and eventually loose gear selection. ooThe RacingLine kit solves this problem: by adding in an additional air/oil cooler positioned right in the airflow at the front of the car, oil temperatures are reduced by around 15 - 20 degrees centigrade (of course dependant on how the car is being used, ambient temps and state of tune). The kit uses a clever design which retains the factory oil/water cooling and adds to it with the thermostatically-controlled front-mounted cooler - doubling up your cooling capability when it's needed with less heat transfer into the water system. Only when the oil exceeds normal temperatures, the thermostat opens. Oil temperature then drops significantly as it is pumped through the densely packed fins of the 10-row cooler’s large surface area mounted right in the cool airflow. HIGH EFFICIENCY COOLER Our 10-row stacked plate design efficiently forces the hot oil through a series of aluminium pressed plates. Heat dissipates as cold air moves across the plates. 210 SERIES BRAIDED HOSE Our oil lines feature an attractive outer nylon braid strengthened by a stainless steel inner weave for maximum resilience. As you’d expect, the RacingLine DSG Oil Cooler is a beautifully detailed complete kit, developed exclusively for MQB cars with either DQ250 6-speed or DQ381 7speed DSG gearbox. The system is designed for straightforward fitting and ultimate reliability. Everything needed for perfect fitment is included. Unlike other DSG oil cooler kits, the RacingLine package keeps the oil/water cooler and adds to it with the oil/air cooler 10 row stacked-plate oil cooler radiator, flowed to obtain maximum heat dissipation without undue pressure drop Optimum front mounted location behind left side front lower grill aperture with all necessary brackets and fixing kit supplied 210 Series stainless steel, nylon braided feed and return lines run past the chassis leg into the bumper cavity, then connecting to the oil cooler core DOUBLE COOLING. Our DSG Cooler design is a unique design: it retains the factory oil/water gearbox cooling system, plus adds our oil/air cooling as well. Why? The DSG oil will still quickly warm up from the hot water in the engine's coolant system, reaching full operating temperature as soon as possible. But that's where the problem begins on a hard-driven car. The hot engine coolant will now have little to no cooling effect on the DSG oil, and gearbox temps start to rise rapidly. That's the point at which our sophisticated thermostatic control valve inside the adaptor block will then divert hot oil out to the new 10-row cooler located in the cool fresh air flow. After the cooled transmission oil returns from the cooler, it carries less heat to be absorbed into the engine coolant system - helping control all the temperatures under the bonnet. Our replacement oil/water cooler (that's the silver part in the picture) is lower in height than the factory one. So the total height of both parts still fits perfectly under the battery location above it. When oil temperature reaches 138°C/280°F, the DSG's control system initiates a reduction in engine torque, meaning a serious drop in performance. Carry on driving, and if temperatures then rise above 145°C/293°F, your DSG clutches no longer get the fluid pressure they require and you loose drive altogether as the box goes into a safety mode. If you're in a hot climate this can happen after only about 15 minutes at the track - meaning a long wait while your gearbox cools down again. PRECISION ENGINEERED FOR PERFECT PERFORMANCE.
